Valerie Phillips is an artist/photographer from New York City, now living in London.
She spent her teenage years obsessed with skateboarding and music, spending most nights out at clubs seeing bands, and taking inspiration from the heady mix of post punk, hip hop & outsider art all around her home city.
Valerie’s pictures have been described as a mix of fashion, fine art and street style photography.
A gritty, graphic pop explosion.
Spontaneity, adventure and a fearless collision with real life, are evident in her personal work as well as her advertising and editorial shoots.
Her first book, ‘I Want To Be An Astronaut’ (2001) follows the daily life of Monika - a Polish high school student in Brooklyn.

Valerie’s first group show was at Museum of Contemporary Arts Barcelona (2001).
Since then her photographs have been shown in New York, Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, London, and most recently at Bookmarc Tokyo.
Her advertising clients include Nike, Reebok, Stussy, Puma, Paul Smith, Selfridges, Urban Outfitters, Dr Martens, Converse, Virgin Atlantic.
She has shot record sleeves for Amy Winehouse, PJ Harvey, Tracey Thorn, Manic Street Preachers, amongst others.
Her work resides in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery, London
